Romans 11:1-5 Break Free of Prejudice

Romans 11:1-5 (KJV)
I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

The coming of the New Testament gospel changed but didn’t end the relationship of God with the Jews. The advancement of the Gospel opened with the Jews…

  • They were the first to be offered entrance into this new grace
  • They were the first to be called (elected) to preach this grace

Those that refused did so on grounds of race. They rejected a new, real and living relationship with the Lord. They were frozen in their past. Old wounds remained fresh generation after generation. They refused to allow them to heal. They perpetrated them upon their children and children’s children.

  • Their hatred for those not of their race
  • Their rehearsal of wrongs done years and year before
  • Their pride of being members of the afflicted race

hardened their hearts and stopped their ears from any message of: grace, mercy, forgiveness and unity.

There were, of course, Jews who broke free of this prejudice. The same can be true of anyone today. There is grace available in the gospel of Jesus Christ. There is a place reserved in the local church for souls of any race or background who trust that gospel. There is a mansion prepared for any who will let go of their grievances and in humility call upon the Lord Jesus Christ.
