John 7:43 Because of Him

John 7:43 (KJV)
So there was a division among the people because of him.

There is no doubt that there is a great deal of division these days because of Jesus. But nothing much has changed. There was division because of Him even before His death, burial and resurrection.

There was division whether or not He was a prophet
These days the argument would be whether there is any spiritual value in Christ and the Bible. It’s the division between the believer and the unbeliever.

There was division over the details of doctrine
The problem was that many of them had not studied this subject out. The Messiah, they knew, was to be from Bethlehem. They just hadn’t done enough research to know that Christ was from Bethlehem.

There was a division caused by religious loyalty
The Pharisees argued that none of them had followed Him therefore no one else should. Fact is, at least one Pharisee had followed. Religious loyalty sends souls to hell. God does provide us with teachers and leaders. We ought to obey them and give them honor the Bible says, but our first responsibility is to Christ.
