Acts 14:27 (KJV)
And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.
God had “opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.” It is such a simple statement but one that stirred up controversy to this day.
We will see in the very next chapter the initial stirrings of that controversy. We will also see the answer to that controversy. Almost the whole of the rest of the Bible, however, will bear the undercurrent of those unhappy with that answer.
- Doesn’t matter who settles it
- Doesn’t matter how reasonable the settlement
- Doesn’t matter how well it is represented
There will always be those who cannot be happy with those answers. They will rebel, they will sow discord where they may and they will seek to turn others in their direction.
Paul would be imprisoned and ultimately executed for this answer. God’s plan, His election, His predetermined counsel was that men of all races be saved by grace through faith, and that they unite as one body in a local church.
People argue and fuss and contend with it. This is nevertheless God’s will.
