Jeremiah 42:12 God’s Mercy First

Jeremiah 42:12 (KJV)
And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

God’s mercy would beget Babylon’s mercy.

The thing they needed first was mercy from God. That mercy Babylon could provide was of little use unless they first had the mercy of God.

So our world seeks favor, compassion, forgiveness, mercy from the wrong sources. If a man is able to gain them all from the people surrounding them. If he is able to gain:

  • The fame of the world,
  • The popularity of his peers and
  • The favor of his leaders

he is still without if has not received them from God.

Matthew 16:26
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Seek mercy from God first. Seek His grace first.

Then those mercies you might receive of others is a mercy indeed.
