Hebrews 2:14-15 He Is No Fool, Who Prepares for Judgment

Hebrews 2:14-15 (KJV)
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Jesus beat Satan with his own tool.

The devil, the Bible says, had (not has) the power of death. This power he used to keep souls in bondage to him. Death, and the fear of it enslaved men so that Satan could do with them as he pleased.

Jesus’ dying and then rising, took this tool from Satan. Jesus didn’t (yet) destroy death, but him that had the power of death.

I suspect that the reason even many lost and rebellious people have little to no fear of death is because the devil no longer has power over it. The lost often think of faith as a crutch for those who fear death. They frequently believe themselves to be superior to Christians because they do not need the crutch to overcome their own fear. This is no sign of true strength but only a transfer from Satan as god to making themselves god. In either case it is wicked idolatry.

Jesus, in death, destroyed Satan’s power over death. Wisdom recognizes that there is a greater power in God who has said “And as it is appointed unto man once to die, and after this, the judgment.”

He is no fool who prepares for judgment.
