2 Chronicles 6:38-39 (KJV)
If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.
God, who dwells in the thick darkness, filled this temple with His glory. In response, Solomon began to pray. He anticipated, in his prayer, what would be the future of Israel. They would sin and they would be removed from this place. He prayed for them that, should this happen, if they returned to God and prayed, that God would:
- Hear their prayer
- Maintain their cause and
- Forgive their sin
My prayer for the people I pastor is that God will move us to turn to Him with all of our heart and soul and that God will:
- Hear our prayer
- Maintain our cause and
- Forgive our sin and that of our country
