Titus 1:15 A Sanctifying Tendency

Titus 1:15 (KJV)
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

Unto the pure all things are pure.” What a convicting thought. Right away let’s dismiss that this teaches the believer can do anything and believe anything because his faith makes it impossible for him to be defiled.

Albert Barnes believes there’s is an allusion to the meats question of Romans 14. He expands upon that and writes, “that every ordinance of religion, every command of God, every event that occurs in divine Providence, tends to promote the holiness of one who is of pure heart. He can see a sanctifying tendency in everything”.

We have been dealt a difficult blow of late. We have had liberty snatched from us overnight and our neighbors are the very people likely to turn us in if they believe we are practicing liberty.[1]  It’s easy right now to complain pretty loudly.

The pure mind and heart will seek the “sanctifying tendency” of even this difficulty.

[1] I suspect, however, that many of those breaking the laws regarding travel are the very ones voting in the people who have confined us.
