John 9:5 The Light of the World

John 9:5 (KJV)
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

I understand that it is possible to say Jesus is in the world today. He is the light of the world today through the Word of God. He is the light of the world today through the convicting work of the Holy Spirit. He is the light of the world today through believers and the corporate work of churches, the body of Christ.

But He is not in the world today in a physical form as He was when He spoke these words. A case can be made then, that without Him, our world is becoming increasingly dark. Evil indeed is waxing worse today. Increasingly the souls of men, at least in the United States, reject what light the Word of God and the believer reflects.

Jesus will be the light of the world in the new earth. There will be no need for sun or moon because Jesus is the light of it. He will be the light in the real sense. He will also, and more importantly, be the light in the moral sense of the word.

Even so come Lord Jesus.
