Acts 14:17 God Did All This

Acts 14:17 (KJV)
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

The Apostle addresses here a group of pagans. These are people used to worshipping idols and intent on giving that worship, through sacrifices, to Paul and Barnabas.

First, they plead for them to stop
They claimed they came to preach that they should turn from these vanities.

Second, they answered an anticipated objection
They had worshipped these “vanities” for generations and had never been the worse for it. The answer to the objection was that God had suffered them to walk in their own ways

Third, they told them any good they had experienced had been from God and not their vanities

  • It was God who did them good.
  • It was God who gave them rain.
  • It was God who gave them fruitful seasons. And
  • It was God who filled their hearts with food and gladness.

God did all of this for a witness. Consider it and you will see, anything good that has happened in your life has been because God has been merciful to you and not because good things and gladness come from vain idols, wickedness or worldliness.

Turn from them to God.
