Deuteronomy 29:29 Pretty Basic

Deuteronomy 29:29 (KJV)
The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

There are two “things” spoken of in this verse,

  • The secret things
  • Those things which are revealed unto us

It seems pretty basic to me.
There are things we do not and cannot know
In some cases, God reveals them later. In some cases, He gives mankind the ability to discover through study and practice. There are yet many things that are completely secret to us.

  • We do not know what lies beyond the grave
  • We do not know how to preserve a life indefinitely
  • We do not know how to create life

These things belong exclusively unto the Lord. We are best left to trust Him in them.

There are those things we know almost instinctively or that are plainly declared to us

  • That God is
  • That we are accountable to Him
  • That the Word of God, in the Bible, is true, infallible, and profitable

Knowing these things, our wisest course of action is to know His word and then to do it.
