Romans 2:1 (KJV)
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
The whole of Romans chapter two, coming off the deep scolding of the end of chapter one, is humbling.
It is so easy for us to judge those upon whom the wrath of God is revealed. We do not deny that such wrath exists. And we certainly urge souls to flee from this wrath through faith but we must never assume ourselves to be better than they. Paul only saw himself as a debtor to them. He did not see himself as their judge.
- It’s inexcusable because we are sinners just as they
- It is inexcusable because it is only grace that has delivered us from God’s wrath
- It is inexcusable because we know what sin is right and yet sin still
- It is inexcusable because it sets us up in God’s stead, before whom every man will one day stand
I was reminded just this week, through Tom Wallace, whose ministry, fortressoffaith.com, is to reach the Muslims, that Islam, the religion, is our enemy but Muslims, the individuals, are souls for whom Christ died.
