Psalms 89:1-4 Instead of Venting, Try This

Psalms 89:1-4 (KJV)
I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.

A beautiful transition takes place in verses 2-4 of this Psalm. Ethan, who is said to have been the writer, begins with a praise.

Psalms 89:1 (KJV)
I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

Whatever else he has to say, he started by singing the mercies of the Lord and by determining he would continue to do that to all generations. There was something to be concerned about, but before that was addressed, he determined that he would not be a murmurer.

Matthew Henry said, “We think, when we are in trouble, that we get ease by complaining; but we do more – we get joy, by praising.”

We may be eased by complaining, but we find joy in praising.

But then there is this transition.

The Bible goes from Ethan’s praise to God’s promise. As Ethan determined to praise the Lord, God took over the text and began to speak through him.

There may be some relief a person feels when he gets his troubles “off his chest.” I suggest it would just be better to praise the Lord and allow Him to begin encouraging you because of it.
