Isaiah 44:19 Fatal Errors

Isaiah 44:19 (KJV)
And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?

Speaking spiritually, there is nothing more deadly than following the heart.[1] Assuming that our emotions, wants, wishes, and will are in alignment with God can lead to gross error.

Notice these idolaters.
From the same branch, they make a fire to warm themselves, cook their food to feed themselves, and carve a god to deceive themselves. Yet they are so blind that they cannot see the irony and error of their actions.

Notice also that it is God who shut their eyes and closed their hearts.
There is but one source of wisdom. One plan of direction we can trust. That is God as He is revealed in His Word. If we do not know it and obey it, we are destined for serious, perhaps eternally fatal errors.

[1] And yet I’ve watched Christians, who’ve been under the sound of preaching decades, ultimately reject the Word of God to do what they want instead of what the Bible teaches.
