2 Corinthians 9:12 (KJV)
For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;
The concept of generosity. Giving, and giving abundantly, – even sacrificially – is such a fundamental principle in the Bible, we can hardly overstate it.
Paul says of the offering being taken that it
Supplied the want of the needs of the saints
Practically speaking, a need was met through the gift. I think of the missionaries’ offerings or the church’s tithes. The ministries would not exist without the generous and faithful, often sacrificial giving of the people of God.
Produced thanksgivings unto God.
We acknowledge the generosity of the giver, but the praise, gratitude, and thanksgiving go up to God.
Resulted in our Lord being glorified
Which is the most important thing any one of us can do in this life. Let all things be done to the glory of the Lord.
Responded with prayer being offered on behalf of the giver
No gift, given to God, goes unrewarded. What better payment in return for the generosity of a believer than that believer then receiving the prayers of those whose needs have been met?
