Exodus 3:3 Why The Bush Is Not Burnt

Exodus 3:3 (KJV)
And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

I have long considered the burning bush to be emblematic of God’s care of Moses. Moses had been through fires.

  • He was not supposed to survive birth
  • He could have been killed by Pharaoh after defending the Egyptian
  • He had been forty years in the desert

Moses had not only survived the fires but thrived.

  • He was raised in the palace
  • He was married in the desert
  • He was called of God from shepherding
  • Moses’ ministry from speaking with Pharaoh the the wilderness could be seen as a busn not being consumed event

If the burning bush is emblematic of Moses, it is not a stretch to consider it a picture of God’s work among His children.

  • We’re not supposed to escape the fires of life
  • We are meant to be a testimony so that others turn aside and ask what prevents us from being consumed

When this happens, others are led out of captivity to sin and into the deliverance of Jesus Christ.
