Deuteronomy 4:29 Stay Near God

Deuteronomy 4:29 (KJV)
But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

There is such reassurance in this passage. God is merciful and slow to anger. He is the God of the second chance. And, as someone has suggested, the third, fourth, and fifth chances too.

God is just. He deals with His people as a father would his children. God does not overlook sin. He corrects it. His heartfelt desire is that His people would fear Him and keep His commandments so that it might be well with them.

Deuteronomy 5:29 (KJV)
O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

His mercy endureth forever[1] and is such that, in the middle of our chastening, if we seek the LORD we will find Him.

But notice that the Word says, “if thou seek Him with all they heart and will all thy soul.”

He had been nigh at hand and not far from every one. He spoke to Moses face to face as a man speaks. They could have walked with God, as Adam and Eve did in the garden. But sin separates, and with that sin, the search for God becomes more challenging. A walk with God requires more than a simple minute or two “devotional.” To truly commune with the Lord now involves mortifying the deeds of the flesh, putting on the righteousness of God, and loving Him with all of our heart, soul, and mind.

Salvation is a free gift purchased for us in the blood of Jesus Christ. But, walking with the LORD is another matter.

[1] Psalms 106:1 (KJV)
Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
