Psalms 119:45 (KJV)
And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.
Soul liberty
- Not civil liberty
- Not liberty of duty
- Not liberty of law
- Not liberty of oppression
The Psalmist encountered the same limits and restrictions that we all face. There were expectations placed upon him in various roles:
- As a husband
- As a father
- As a citizen
- As a worker
- As a believer
However, he found freedom in his soul to worship God according to his own conscience because he diligently sought out and studied God’s precepts.
No one can be enslaved when they possess knowledge of the Word of God. Only those who lack understanding of the Word can be deceived and led astray by fear and ignorance. A person who dedicates themselves to studying the Word of God is liberated to love those who hold different beliefs, to submit to those in authority over them, and to care for those under their responsibility.
Such an individual can be a valuable citizen in their country because of their knowledge of God. They can even, like Joseph, serve as a godly example even in the most challenging circumstances, such as in prison, because of their deep connection with the Lord.
Regardless of their obligations or constraints, the freest person in the world is the one who comprehends and follows God’s precepts.
