Psalms 119:89 (KJV)
For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
Settle that it is settled.
The truth is that this world is an unsettled place.
They say that the plate tectonics underground are ever-shifting. There are fault lines, such as the San Andreas, all over the world. The Earth’s plates shift nearly constantly upon those lines.
There are volcanoes scattered around the world, many of them still active today. Some behave like sleeping giants. No one knows when they will awaken and spew lava, lahars, or who knows what else over major populations.
We have the ebb and flow of the tides. While they are, for the most part, predictable, still, the unexpected happens, like “sneaker waves” and tsunamis, and lives are lost. Hurricanes, tornadoes, and tropical storms strike like clockwork, yet they do so in the most unpredictable manner.[1]
However, none of this compares to the unsettled nature of mankind. The tides of political, socio-economic, and religious movements ebb and flow worse than the oceans. Storms of human upheaval swell with elections or coups of world governments.
Babies are born, bringing delight, hope, and happiness. Loved ones pass away, bringing sorrow, loss, and loneliness.
This world is an unsettled place. Whenever the earth under our feet trembles, it is most important to have it settled in our souls that God’s Word is settled in heaven.
