Galatians 2:14 Peter Lived Like a Gentile

Galatians 2:14 (KJV)
But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

Paul clearly affirmed that, though Peter was a Jew and the apostle to the circumcision, he lived after the manner of the Gentiles. The writers say this is in regards to eating with Gentiles and eating meat that Jews were commanded not to eat. I suggest that this would also include other burdens placed upon the Jews by the religious leaders.

Though Peter, Barnabas and some others had a “relapse” that Paul boldly confronted, the truth is still plain enough; these early believers, though Jews by blood, lived as do Gentiles and not Jews.

The modern Messianic Jews are wrong.

  • They are the new Judaizers and not the remnant of what real Christianity looks like.
  • They are the followers of the heretics Paul, Peter, John and Jude all preached against.

They are not the ones who can bring us back to first century Christianity. They are the ones who attempt to remove unsuspecting souls from the faith.

Mark 13:21-23 (KJV) Why True Believers Can’t Be Fooled

Mark 13:21-23 (KJV)
And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

It is not possible to deceive the elect on three counts:
First, they have been warned
The element of surprise has been robbed the devil. Jesus has warned us that Satan will try to deceive.

Secondly; they have a choice in the matter
True believers can never fall victim to the devil’s devices. They have the power of the Holy Spirit and the will to follow the Lord.

Thirdly, they are the elect
That means they belong to God. Satan may desire to sift them but he cannot overcome the prayers of Christ fort them.

1 John 5:1 (KJV) Jesus Christ, the Fulcrum

1 John 5:1 (KJV)
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

The contest of the spiritual world revolves around Jesus Christ.

  • His person
  • His presence and
  • His passion

are become the fulcrum over which faith becomes a broken religion or an elevating devotion. Here is the dividing line between those who say they love God and those whom God says love Him. If you love God you will in turn love the one who is begotten of Him; Jesus Christ.

By using the concept of the begotten here, the Apostle points us to the incarnation. This is that breaking point for so many religions

  • The Catholics venerate Mary almost more than Christ
  • The Mormons and JW’s make Christ less than God with us
  • The Muslims reject that Christ was more than a great prophet
  • The eastern religions are ignorant of Christ
  • The atheists deny Christ
  • The worldly ignore Christ

To love God is to love Christ. To love Christ is to not merely believe in His existence but to embrace His every teaching.

1 John 2:26 (KJV) Spiritual Seduction

1 John 2:26 (KJV)
These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

The apostle speaks of the seduction so matter-of-factly that it must have been happening at the very moment. John took proactive and immediate measures to stop the work of seduction before it had time to work its wickedness.

I pause to identify the character of Seduction:

It is subtle and often difficult to see
This is especially true of the seduced.

It is flattering and appeals to the ego
Attention given, even by one who should not give the attention is none-the-less attractive.

It is sinful
No one is seduced into the right. The very nature of seduction is to lead away from the right.

It is destructive
Seduction like all sin when it is finished leads to death.

Those who are lost are no less seducers today than they were two thousand years ago. They are more varied and perhaps more brazen now than ever before. Anyone who knows the Lord should be happy that there is someone to step in and stop the seduction before it causes damaging consequences to one’s faith.

To God Alone

Deuteronomy 13:4 KJV

Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

I would call this verse the pivot of all of Deuteronomy 13. The chapter offers three possibilities in following after false gods:

  • A prophet might bring a true sign
  • A member of the family might tempt you privately or
  • Certain men (this might be a political party in our day) might lead a whole city away from god

The point was that, no matter what, you do not turn from God to idols.

  • Even if the prophet tells a dream that comes true or performs a miracle and it is proven genuine
  • Even if it is you your parents your spouse or your children
  • Even if is the direction your whole country is heading towards

We who are God’s people are to:

  • walk after God
  • fear him and keep His commandments
  • obey His voice
  • serve Him and
  • cleave unto Him

If anything tends to draw us away, especially if they are emotionally compelling things, we should view that as a test from God to prove, try and strengthen our faith.

Our allegiance is to God alone.
