Joel 3:12 Multitudes in the Valley

Joel 3:12 (KJV)
Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about.

I understand this passage to refer to the judgment at the end of the Tribulation when Jesus divides the sheep from the goats. Multitudes of people who have survived will come face to face with the Lord.

I see the symbolism of beating pruning hooks into spears to represent the uselessness of their contest against the judge. There is no contest. It is the mere voice of Christ that defeats them.

  • They will assemble
  • They will gather around mighty leaders
  • They will come with whatever weapons they may devise

But in the end every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.

There is only one way to win in the valley of decision.

This is to surrender to Jesus Christ.

Joel 3:12 Multitudes in the Valley

Joel 1:3 Tell Your Children

Joel 1:3 (KJV)
Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

The prophet Joel had some devastating news from the Lord. It’s going to be harder than anything that they had ever seen. Harder even than anything their fathers had seen. In light of this, Joel urged the people to tell their children and teach their children to tell their children. And their children’s children.

Sometimes we shy away from bad news. We all like to hear positive, encouraging, helpful supportive types of things. We’re even warned to stay away from those who tend to always be negative. I am reminded that the Bible says much more about sin than it does righteousness and much more about hell than it does heaven. Our world today is not nearly desperate enough to appreciate heaven. We haven’t heard enough on sin and hell. We have to return to telling our children, their children and their children’s children the consequences of sin.

Having said that, let us remember to tell them of salvation. Let us tell our children, their children and their children’s children of Jesus Christ, of a promise of eternal life, of the blessed hope of Jesus’ return, of the book that tells us this good news, of the churches where people of like faith assemble to be equipped to spread this news.

Let us tell them in such a manner that they are able to tell one generation after another generation until Jesus comes again.

Joel 3:14 Decision Today

Joel 3:14 (KJV)
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

My understanding of prophecy, and of this chapter, places it at the end of the Tribulation and just prior to the Millennial Kingdom. Jesus has defeated the armies of Antichrist and set down at the Mount of Olives. He has established His throne in Jerusalem and is preparing for His reign. But first, He must ensure that only a saved people enter into the kingdom.

The passage corresponds to Matthew 25:31-33 (KJV)
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left

And to Matthew 13:47-50 (KJV)
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,
And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

There are multitudes in the valley of decision, and it is Jesus doing the deciding. Some to everlasting condemnation and the some to the joys of His kingdom.

Those in the valley will be subject to the decision of Christ. But each of one has the right of decision today. You may come to Christ now and know your eternity is secure. If you reject Christ or choose to ignore the call to come to Him, He will decide for you. And He will decide against you.
